Enhancing Communities: MTE’s Park Projects

As we embrace the warmth of summer, Ontarians are eager to make the most of their time outdoors. Access to nearby parks and community centers is essential in transforming outdoor moments into cherished memories. Whether it is cooling off at splash pads, strolling through vibrant gardens, or climbing on playgrounds, these outdoor facilities enhance our quality of life.

MTE takes pride in providing a variety of services to our communities, including the development of parks, which continues to positively impact cities across Ontario. These spaces not only promote physical activity but also foster a sense of community and well-being by offering diverse activities that cater to all ages and interests.

Curious about nearby parks or future parks in your area? MTE has curated a list of memorable parks we have worked on:

Fairwinds Park, Mississauga

MTE provided civil engineering services for this project’s development, designing and developing the park site plan. The park features a beach theme, with a light house structure and the HMCS Pinnacle, a ship that has run a-ground beside a sandy beach, the playground centerpiece at Fairwinds.

Hanlon Creek Splashpad, Guelph

Our team was able to support the city of Guelph by providing civil and structural engineering services for the demolition, design, and construction of Hanlon Creek Park. This park is home to a splash pad that is enjoyed by Guelph residents throughout the warmer months. When the washrooms and splash pad reached the end of their lifecycle, the city set out to replace the facility and enhance it with additional accessibility and sustainability features that we see today.

Oakville Memorial Park, Oakville

MTE provided civil engineering services for the development of the Oakville Memorial Park, designing, and developing the site plan, along with extended water services. The Town of Oakville has developed four phases of Memorial Park over the past 10 years. Previous phases of the project included a community garden and a leash-free dog park. The most recent phase, Phase 4, was an active/passive plaza that serves as one of the two park entrances along Georgian Drive.

Eastbridge Green, Waterloo

MTE was proud to provide civil and geotechnical engineering services for the Eastbridge Green Splash Pad. The splashpad is set to be completed in the spring of 2025. This design includes a pirate ship with a nest, a sea monster and small tipping buckets. There are a variety of spray features, including directional jets and misters.

Eden Oak Park, Kitchener

Working closely with the Planning team, MTE’s civil engineering team provided the grading and servicing design for this new 1.75-ha (4.32-acre) park in the Grand River South community. The park includes traditional and natural playground areas, a multi-sport court and looped paved trails.

Riverside Park, Guelph

As part of their playground replacement program, the City of Guelph sought to update Riverside Park to meet current Canadian Standards Association’s standards for children’s play spaces. MTE provided the civil engineering of the redeveloped park, working closely with the Planning Team to provide design services for the site servicing and grading.

South End Community Park, Guelph

MTE was retained as the civil and structural engineering consultant for the design and construction of the City of Guelph’s new South End Community Park. Working with the City, the Architect, Planner and Landscape Architect, MTE designed a community park that included a new washroom building and splash pad, a widened stone laneway, landscaping, and two barrier-free parking spaces.

Paul Coffey Park, Malton

MTE provided civil engineering services for the master plan and redevelopment of Paul Coffey Park. The park is set to be completed in 2025. Paul Coffey Park offers visitors amenities such as an adventure playground, large picnic areas, basketball courts, cricket, bocce, tennis, softball, skateboard, and soccer fields.
