Project overview

The Cenovus Energy Hub is a multi-use sports and entertainment centre in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, developed as a long-term community asset and the region’s premier destination for athletics, live events, and public gatherings. Replacing the former Centennial Civic Centre, the facility includes a main event arena with expandable seating for large-scale concerts and sporting events, a secondary community ice rink, and flexible year-round indoor and outdoor programming spaces.

As one of the most significant infrastructure investments in Lloydminster’s history, the Hub reflects strong collaboration among municipal leaders, industry partners, and the community, and serves as the cornerstone of a growing entertainment district that supports local sport organizations, attracts regional events, and strengthens Lloydminster’s cultural and economic vitality.

MTE's Involvement

MTE provided structural engineering services for the project, with a specific focus on the cold-formed steel (CFS) design, including the building’s distinctive curved geometry. The CFS system incorporated specialized curved members to support the architectural form of the structure. MTE worked closely with Radius Track, a Minneapolis-based firm recognized for its expertise in curved cold-formed steel systems. As Radius Track’s Canadian consulting partner, MTE supported the design and coordination of these specialized structural elements to ensure performance and constructability.
