MTE's Involvement
MTE was proud to provide civil and structural engineering services to the development of 1620 Main Street East, located in Hamilton, Ontario.
Our Civil team played a key role in delivering site engineering services for the project, including base plan preparation and detailed design for site grading, servicing, and stormwater management. Our scope of work also encompassed:
- Erosion and sediment control details (integrated into the Site Grading Plan)
- Stormwater Management Report
- Wastewater Generation Assessment
- Fire flow analysis
In addition, we provided ongoing support throughout the project lifecycle, including participation in project meetings, general reviews of on-site works, and site inspections.
Our Structural team provided structural engineering services including the preliminary structural design, development of the structural systems, and the production of construction documents. We also conducted shop drawing reviews, participated in coordination meetings, and provided general construction review services throughout the project.
The building’s Cross-Laminated Timber (CLT) structure lowers embodied carbon, and its prefabricated components reduce waste and accelerate construction timelines. A high-performance building envelope—with triple-glazed Passive House-certified windows and airtight construction (0.40 ACH @50Pa)—minimizes heating and cooling demand. Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) and air-source heat pumps further enhance energy performance, and rooftop solar panels help offset energy use for lighting.
Water conservation is addressed through the use of low-flow plumbing fixtures and drought-resistant native landscaping, reinforcing the project’s commitment to environmental responsibility.
