MTE Awarded Canada’s Best Private Board of 2024

We are thrilled to announce that MTE’s Board of Directors has been recognized as Canada’s Best Private Board of 2024 in the Best Fiduciary Board – Employee-Owned or Partnership category!

Canada’s Best Private Boards is a new annual awards program and summit – the first of its kind in Canada – that recognizes the impact of great governance on the performance of private companies.

Also known as “The Boardies”, Canada’s Best Private Boards celebrates how advisory or governance has driven growth in mid-market family businesses, investor-backed companies and employee-owned firms like MTE.

“MTE Consultants is best-in-class in terms of private company governance. Their submission to the program was excellent,” said Jennifer Mondoux, Managing Partner and CEO of MondouxRollins Partners, a human capital advisory and talent solutions firm to mid-market private companies, and founder of Canada’s Best Private Boards. “Our independent voting committee sees MTE as being ahead-of-the-curve in its use of independent directors, with very professional board construction and contribution that’s well thought out and executed. We are thrilled to have such a phenomenal example of private company governance to showcase in our inaugural year.”

Our Board Chair, Kerry Gerber notes “We regard this recognition as a tremendous honour, and expect that these awards will further the advancement of good governance in the private sector across Canada. The MTE Board and management team look forward to being part of that journey. We wish to thank our Board members, both past and present, internal and external, for their dedicated service and commitment to the Company. Well done!”

MTE’s History

From its inception in 1985 to current day, MTE’s board has evolved from a small board, meeting the company’s annual legal requirements, to a 10-person elected board that is fully responsible for setting the strategic direction of the company, consisting of both independent (external) directors and employee shareholders.

By 2019, MTE’s Board of Directors had grown to a 10-person board of which three were independent external Directors, including the Board Chair, with the remainder of the Board Directors being employee shareholders of the company.

Today, MTE remains 100% employee owned whose approximately 155 shareholders are responsible, on an annual basis, for the election of MTE’s Board of Directors who in turn sets the strategic direction of the corporation and govern accordingly.

The Future

Our vision is to continue to evolve as a very strong, engaged, capable and curious board; one who understands the proper role of governance in the context of an employee-owned, profit-oriented company and which genuinely cares about the culture, people and success of the company.
