Project overview

The $39.7-million Oakville Trafalgar Community Centre was developed adjacent to the new municipal park on the former site of the Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. The 53,000-ft² facility was designed as a community centre, offering a double gymnasium, 25-metre pool, fitness centre and running track, universal change rooms, multipurpose meeting rooms, a café, and a range of additional amenities.

Delivered in partnership with Oakville Hydro, the centre was a LEED®-certified, energy-efficient building that incorporated a variety of sustainable design features. These included rooftop solar panels, geothermal heating and cooling systems, low-impact development stormwater management practices, electric vehicle charging stations, and strong physical connections to the adjacent park to support outdoor programming and seasonal community use.

MTE's Involvement

MTE served as the civil engineering expertise for the project and contributed to its successful delivery through the Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) process. Our Civil team developed an integrated stormwater management solution that captured rainwater from the building roof and incorporated an infiltration gallery to provide effective quality control for surface runoff.

This approach supported the project’s sustainability objectives while integrating stormwater infrastructure within the site and surrounding parkland.
