Project overview

King Animal Hospital is a leading multidisciplinary referral and emergency facility for both small animals and equines. Spanning 60,000 square feet across four stories on over 50 acres, the hospital provides essential services to the community and their pets. The state-of-the-art facility includes 12 examination rooms and 7 operating rooms.

The equine division features advanced technologies such as MRI, a standing CT scan with a robotic arm, C-Arm fluoroscopy, and digital x-ray. Additionally, it features a 5,800 square-foot indoor arena designed to enhance the care and training of equine patients.

In addition, the small animal division of King Animal Hospital will offer comprehensive services including surgery, critical care, dermatology, ophthalmology, neurology, rehabilitation, and diagnostics.

The facility aims to revolutionize animal care in the area and be a catalyst for knowledge exchange in the industry as the demand for veterinary services in Ontario continues to grow.

MTE's Involvement

MTE was pleased to offer structural engineering services for phase 1 and phase 2 of the King City Animal Hospital.

For Phase 1 of the hospital, MTE provided cold form steel (CFS) design into the structure’s shop drawings.

For phase 2 of the project, MTE provided all structural components for the four structures, including the Operations Garage, Manure Storage, Hay Storage and Dog Boarding Facility (DBF). This consisted of steel framing for the Hay Storage and DBF, wood framing for all structures, suspended concrete slabs for the DBF and Operations Garage which had basements. The Hay Storage, Operations Garage and portions of the DBF required helical pile designs because of the soil conditions.

MTE has also worked alongside several different companies to ensure the structure is complete as per our client Cumulus Architects Inc’s request, which include Timber manufacturers for the exposed wood trusses in the Hay Storage and Operations Garage and the Cupola on top of the DBF.

MTE has conducted multiple site visits and reports to ensure procedures and guidelines are being followed in accordance with the Ontario Building Code and PEO guidelines. Our team was proud to partner with our client and work together to bring this much needed facility to life.
