12 Days of Christmas: 4 EV Charging Stations

On the fourth day of Christmas my true love gave to me… four EV charging stations!

We are excited to announce that the installation of our new EV charging stations at our Kitchener office has been completed! This marks an important milestone in our commitment to reducing MTE’s carbon footprint and fostering a more sustainable workplace.

The introduction of EV charging stations is part of a broader, long-term strategy aimed at carbon reduction. As a company, we’ll be unveiling additional initiatives that will continue this momentum, ensuring that environmental responsibility is an important part of our operations.

MTE is committed to a variety of environmental initiatives that positively impact our community and the areas surrounding our offices.

Here are some other examples of our efforts:

  • Tree Planting: We organize tree planting events to enhance local green spaces and promote biodiversity. These initiatives not only beautify our environment but also contribute to cleaner air and improved habitats for wildlife. In collaboration with local groups such as Reforest London, Conservation Halton and Trees for Woolwich, volunteers continue to foster meaningful connections in our communities each year.
  • Garbage Clean-Ups: Our team actively participates in community clean-up days, where we work together to remove litter from parks, riverbanks, and public spaces. These efforts help keep our environment clean and raise awareness about the importance of waste management.
  • Sustainable Potlucks: We host sustainable potluck events that encourage our employees to bring locally sourced, organic dishes. This initiative promotes healthy eating habits while supporting local farmers and reducing our carbon footprint. Limiting the distance food travels from production sites to our plates. Decreasing meat and dairy consumption is an effective way to reduce emissions.
  • Bicycle Tune-ups and Community Rides: To promote a healthy lifestyle and reduce our reliance on cars, we organize bicycle tune-ups and community bike rides. These events not only foster camaraderie among participants but also highlight the benefits of cycling as a sustainable mode of transportation.
  • E-waste Drives: To prevent disposal of environmentally harmful materials into the landfill, we organize e-waste drives. E-waste can be toxic to the soil, air, water and living things, and often contains materials that can be reused or repurposed. Collecting e-waste is part of a larger waste reduction and diversion effort at MTE, also including the collection of items such as PPE, office supply waste and organic waste.
  • Invasive Species Management: We have worked to prevent the spread of invasive species in our communities, in partnership with Royal Botanical Gardens and Friends of Kilally Meadows. Invasive species pose a significant threat to our ecosystems, making them more susceptible to the impacts of climate change.
  • Pollinator Garden Care and Maintenance: In 2023, two large pollinator gardens were designed and built by staff at our Stratford office. Dedicated maintenance is required each spring and fall. So far, volunteer work has included weeding, mulching and seeding. The gardens have attracted many pollinators, while adding beauty and vibrancy to the landscape.
  • Carbon Cleanse and Workplace Green Up: Throughout the month of October, London and Stratford participated in Workplace Green Up, an employee engagement program organized by Green Economy London, while Kitchener, Burlington and Toronto participated in Carbon Cleanse organized by Sustainable Waterloo Region. Both initiatives focused on key areas including GHG emissions reduction, waste reduction and diversion, water conservation, environmental stewardship and energy efficiency.

Through these initiatives, MTE strives to make a meaningful impact and inspire others to join us in caring for our environment.
