Project Overview

Working alongside Diamond Schmitt Architects, our team has been providing civil and structural engineering services in support of a new operational hub for the Labourers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) Local 183. Situated in Vaughan’s emerging urban precinct, this landmark building consists of a six-storey tower connected to a three-storey wing, centered around a dynamic assembly hall that can accommodate up to 3,000 guests.

The headquarters will feature a striking glazing system, contemporary workspaces for staff and community services for members, including medical clinics, a pharmacy, financial services, training classrooms and recreational spaces for union members.

MTE’s Involvement

Our civil engineering team joined the project team to complete the site grading, servicing, and stormwater management design for the facility. The site is located on a 4.16-ha parcel of land that was previously occupied by an agricultural field. Our plan encompasses the six-storey structure, as well as one level of underground parking and parking at grade.

Our structural engineering team designed the cold-formed steel structure and oversaw construction review and certification. The facility was designed and constructed to LEED Silver standards and has the capacity to accommodate future growth.
