Project Overview

Soon to be an eye-catching addition to Burlington’s Skyline, Illumina will stand tall as a 22-storey, 175,000 ft2 residential tower designed by Graziani + Corazza Architects, with structural engineering services provided by MTE. The development is located just steps away from the City’s vibrant waterfront at 500 Brock Avenue and features a prominent glass and concrete façade that also incorporates elements of wood at podium level.

Illumina will contain 162 suites and offer residents a rooftop terrace, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, and four-storeys of underground parking. With towering ceilings and a largely glass façade, natural light pours into the building from every corner.

MTE’s Involvement

Our team was brought onto the project to provide structural engineering services for the design and drawings, contract administration and construction review and certification. This property was previously vacant, with the exception of an existing two-storey residential building. In support of the redevelopment, our team also completed a Designated Substance Audit in advance of the demolition work to identify and mitigate risks for workers at the site during demolition activities.

The tower was designed, and is currently being constructed, using cast-in-place concrete. With the foundation and sub-structure works complete, construction is out of the ground and continuing upwards.
