Habitat for Humanity 18-Townhome Build
Services
Project Overview
As a team of community builders, our team is always looking for ways to give back. Which is why we jumped at the opportunity to support Habitat for Humanity Halton-Mississauga-Dufferin as they embarked on a plan to bring affordable housing to 18 deserving families in Burlington.
The housing development is located on a 1-acre site previously occupied by a commercial structure and a mixed-use building, both of which were demolished to make way for the new townhomes. The 18 units are each three storeys, include a garage, back deck and vary between two and three bedrooms.
MTE’s Involvement
Our team first joined the project to provide environmental expertise related to redeveloping the site. We began by completing Environmental Site Assessments, and a Designated Substance Audit in advance of the demolition, to evaluate the potential of redeveloping the property and any challenges that would require mitigation. We successfully secured the necessary environmental approvals, allowing the redevelopment to move forward.
Our civil engineers also joined the project in its early phases by completing the site grading as well as a Functional Servicing and Stormwater Management Report, identifying how the townhomes would be serviced including water, sanitary, and storm connections to existing municipal infrastructure.
We made our final contribution by volunteering our time to put the finishing touches on the property. Our team spent a day completing the final landscaping by raking, cutting and laying 500 rolls of brand-new sod.
We provided construction inspections throughout the civil works, and we are thrilled to see the development has become a home to 18 families within our community.
