Project Overview

The expansion project at The Future Home of The Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre aims to establish a modern, dedicated facility for complex care and rehabilitation services. By consolidating these services into a single, purpose-built environment, the center seeks to optimize patient care and recovery outcomes.

Trillium Health Partners currently faces capacity constraints across six disparate sites, spanning from Milton to Toronto, for delivering rehabilitation and complex care services. This expansion initiative is a proactive response to the community’s growth and aims to bring specialized care closer to patients’ residences.

The expansion project encompasses several key features designed to enhance care delivery and accommodate the growing needs of the community. A focal point is the construction of a modern nine-story facility spanning 600,000 square feet, with the capacity to house over 350 beds. This expansion prioritizes specialized care, particularly in complex continuing care and rehabilitation services, thereby significantly augmenting the center’s ability to meet the diverse requirements of patients.

To ensure continuity of care during the expansion phase, existing facilities will be retained, upholding the provision of high-quality services to the community. Furthermore, recognizing the importance of accessibility, plans include a new parking structure to accommodate the increased influx of patients and visitors.

MTE’s Involvement

MTE provided civil engineering services to the Gilgan Family Queensway Health Centre’s new parking structure to accommodate the increased influx of patients and visitors.

This project entailed the construction of a new parking garage spanning 385,000 square feet, aiming to accommodate a total of 910 parking spaces across 10 levels—two below grade, one at grade, and seven above grade. The designated site covers approximately 24 acres. As the civil consultant, MTE’s responsibilities encompassed detailed site grading, servicing, and stormwater management design to facilitate Site Plan Approval and Building Permit processes, alongside overseeing construction inspection activities.

MTE is proud to have been a key partner in the creation of this new Health Centre, a project that showcases innovation and impact, and seeks to improve healthcare delivery in the community.
