The Berkeley Condominium & Burlington Healthcare Centre | Burlington, Ontario
MTE was retained by Carriage Gate Group Inc. to provide both civil and structural engineering services in support of their cutting-edge project, The Berkeley, a multi-use development consisting of a condominium, retail space and a healthcare centre. Situated on a 0.38-ha property, the 17-storey glass tower condominium is located in the core of downtown Burlington and contains a total of 154 one- and two-bedroom suites.
The development will include an eight-storey, 9,290-m2 (100,000-ft2) commercial office building which will contain the Burlington Health Care Centre, a multidisciplinary medical facility. Connecting the condos and the healthcare centre will be a six-storey municipal parking garage featuring a green rooftop and three shared levels of underground parking. In order to accommodate commercial space on the ground level, the structural design incorporates a three-storey columned stone and precast podium.
Our team was brought on this project early in the design phase as the civil engineer to provide a site plan including site grading, site servicing, stormwater management design, site plan approval application, as well as construction inspection and certification. In support of the site plan application, our team prepared a Water and Sewer Usage Report for Regional approval.
We also provided the structural design and drawings, contract administration and construction review and certification in two phases, starting with the condominium throughout the first phase and moving onto the medical centre, retail space, and parking structure as the second phase.
Having completed the final construction certification for both the condominium and retail space, residents have now moved into their finished suites. Both the healthcare centre and parking garage are now under development.
