Project overview

Set to become a standout on Burlington’s skyline, Illumina is a 22-storey, 175,000 ft² residential tower located at 500 Brock Avenue, just steps from the city’s waterfront. Designed by Graziani + Corazza Architects, the tower features a glass and concrete façade with warm wood accents at the podium level.

MTE's Involvement

The development includes 162 residential suites and offers premium amenities such as a rooftop terrace, a modern fitness centre, and four levels of underground parking. With its soaring ceilings and predominantly glass exterior, the design allowed natural light to flood the interior spaces throughout the day.

MTE provided full structural engineering services for the project, including structural design, construction drawings, contract administration, and construction review and certification.

The site was previously occupied by a two-storey residential building. In preparation for redevelopment, MTE completed a Designated Substance Audit to identify and mitigate risks during demolition activities, ensuring worker safety and regulatory compliance.

The tower was constructed using cast-in-place concrete. MTE supported the project through the completion of the foundation and substructure, with the building progressing vertically as construction continued.
