Project overview

The Bioveld Multimodal Hub is a 600+ acre industrial complex located next to the Welland Canal, in Thorold, Ontario. This award-winning development, created by the BMI Group and its partners, has attracted over $1 billion in investments and major industry players, bolstering the region’s industrial capabilities. The hub offers access to marine, rail, and highway transportation, along with 1.2 million square feet of indoor warehouse space and outdoor storage. Its versatility allows it to support a wide range of industrial, cargo handling, and ancillary operations.

MTE's Involvement

MTE was proud to provide surveying, along with environmental engineering services for the development of The Bioveld Multimodal Hub.

MTE was retained to complete various tasks including a soil and groundwater investigation, legal boundary survey, topographic survey, observe the installation of a Permeable Reactive Barrier (PRB), and provide support to assess potential re-use options for on-site infrastructure.

The Bioveld Multimodal Hub received a 2023 Brownie Award from the Canadian Brownfields Network. Honored in the ‘Renew-Large Scale Project’ category, the Bioveld Multimodal Hub was recognized for its successful reimagining of a legacy industrial site for modern industrial uses.
