Our Environmental team in Kitchener is growing and we are currently seeking an Excess Soil Specialist to join us.
Responsibility

- Manage and support projects related to excess soil management (Ontario Regulation 406/19) in Ontario;
- Work with MTE’s environmental site assessment, civil, geotechnical, and hydrogeological teams on infrastructure, land development and environmental due diligence projects;
- Conduct year-round fieldwork associated with excess soil management including site assessment, drilling, test pitting and stockpile sampling;
- Conduct soil sampling in accordance with MTE Standard Operating Procedures, prepare detailed field notes and complete field-based deliverables (borehole logs, photo logs and data tables);
- Preparation of Assessment of Past Uses, Sampling and Analysis Plans, Soil Characterization Reports, and Excess Soil Destination Assessment Reports in accordance with O.Reg. 406/19, as well as Fill Management Plans, and special provisions for tenders;
- Preparation of proposals and fee estimates for excess soil projects including soil characterization and construction/tender support;
- Review/audit Soil Characterization Reports prepared by others, soil tracking systems, and other excess soil management related documentation;
- Communication/coordination with contractors, developers, clients and internal project teams to ensure excess soil requirements meet project deadlines and client expectations;
- Attend internal and external project meetings, ensuring regular/consistent communication with project teams, contractors, and clients; and
- Other related duties, as required.
Requirements

- 3-5 years of experience in a similar role, i.e., working experience in environmental site assessments, site/land development, construction, etc. (work term experience acceptable);
- Technical understanding of provincial (Ontario) regulations and industry standard practices related to contaminated sites and environmental work in Ontario (e.g. O. Reg. 153/04, O. Reg. 903, O. Reg. 406/19, R.R., O. Reg. 347);
- Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators;
- Experience in sample collection, use of surveying equipment and familiarity with construction drawings (i.e. Site plans, grading plans, cut/fill plans, etc.);
- Working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- Must have strong verbal/written communication skills and the ability to communicate clearly with a variety of individuals (e.g., project managers, laboratories, subcontractors and clients);
- Must be reliable, well organized and have a strong attention to detail;
- Strong time management skills, problem solving skills and decision making abilities;
- Must be able to lift up to 25 kilograms;
- Regular travel to project sites is required. Mileage for work related travel will be reimbursed;
- Valid G License; and
- Licensed Professional, P.Eng., P. Geo., or C.E.T. designation is considered an asset.
