Project overview

As part of the development of the Aurora Cannabis cogeneration plant in Bradford, Ontario, MTE was retained to design an exterior steel platform to support key mechanical and electrical infrastructure. The platform accommodates three generators, a modular electrical house (E-House), and a pump house—all critical components in the facility’s energy system.

MTE's Involvement

MTE’s structural engineering team designed a heavy-duty steel platform with integrated catwalks and stairs, ensuring safe access for operations and maintenance staff. Given the substantial equipment loads and challenging soil conditions, our team evaluated multiple foundation options and determined that drilled caissons would provide the most cost-effective and structurally sound solution for the main platform.

For additional equipment foundations, drilled helical piles were specified to suit site-specific requirements. One of the most critical aspects of the project was the need to manage dynamic loads generated by the operating equipment—a challenge that was addressed through careful analysis and precision engineering.

MTE also provided construction-phase support, including all site reviews of the structural work to confirm compliance with design specifications and performance standards.

Through close coordination and practical engineering solutions, MTE helped ensure the successful integration of infrastructure at this high-performance energy facility.
